The closest high-mountain trek to Kathmandu: a week in a glacier-carved valley of Tamang villages, yak pastures and the cheese factory at Kyanjin Gompa, under the ice walls of Langtang Lirung (7,227 m). The valley was badly hit by the 2015 earthquake and has been rebuilt by its communities; trekking here supports that recovery directly.
